Liverpool v Norwich Betting Tips: Match Preview
The difference between Man Utd and Liverpool in their encounter from last Saturday is that Liverpool played terribly in both halves. Christian Benteke deserves praise for his outstanding bicycle kick, but it was clear for all too see that he was linking up terribly with the rest of the team. Benteke’s performance echoed that of his teammates.
Brendan Rodgers opted to start six summer signings in his first XI. Playing without the injured Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana, including the suspended Philippe Coutinho, is making it tough for Liverpool to integrate their new signings in a more natural way. Fortunately for Rodgers, he will have Coutinho and possibly Lallana back for Norwich City.
Liverpool rest at 10th place after two wins, one draw, and two losses from five games. In fact, Norwich are currently level with Liverpool on seven points. Rodgers knows that he needs to restore faith by securing three points against Norwich. The reds need to erase the memory of a 3-0 home loss to West Ham and a 3-1 away defeat to Man Utd.
To stand a chance of winning against Norwich, Rodgers has to admit that Dejan Lovren is simply not going to make the grade at centre-back. Conceding six goals in two games is clear indication that change is required in defence. Meanwhile, Rodgers needs to figure out how to connect the midfield to Benteke.
Seven subpar points for Liverpool represents a superb haul for Norwich City. The Canaries started the season terribly with a 3-1 home loss to Crystal Palace, but were able to rebound with a 3-1 win at Sunderland and 1-1 draw with Stoke. Norwich again showed spirit by rebounding from a 3-0 loss to Southampton at the end of August to beat Bournemouth 3-1 last weekend.
Some Championship teams are just awful when they join the Premier League, but Norwich have exceeded expectations and can take pride in the performances of midfielders Wes Hoolahan and Nathan Redmond. Norwich have enough talent to survive in the Premier League, and starting with seven points will prove crucial come the end of the season.
Norwich’s greatest concern against Liverpool will be for their defence. Conceding nine goals in your first five games is not a good way to start the season. Norwich were unable to close out the game against Bournemouth last weekend, and eventually allowed Steve Cook to score on 81 minutes. Although Liverpool are currently underwhelming in attack, they have the talent to turn it on against Norwich’s leaky defence.
Liverpool will look to the returning Coutinho to inspire them to victory. bet365 are currently offering 1.57 on Liverpool to win, but you can boost those odds by combining that win with over 2.5 goals to boost the original odds up to 2.50.
Norwich’s leaky defence is the reason why this should appeal.
