Roma v Barcelona Betting Tips: Match Preview
Roma are feeling extremely hopeful this year after managing to beat Serie A champions Juventus 2-1 to start the season. After finishing second to Juventus last time around, Roma have the chance to win the league following the departures of stars Carlos Tevez and Arturo Vidal. They also have an excellent chance to qualify from group E.
On the face of it, Roma should aim to qualify behind Barcelona. BATE Borisov should not be difficult, while Bayer Leverkusen are beatable given that that Roma have better players. In the summer, Roma managed to upgrade their attack after loaning striker Edin Dzeko to complement fellow Bosnian and attacking playmaker Miralem Pjanić, but the latter could miss out through injury.
Dzeko and Pjanić have already exhibited some positive signs that they will form an even better partnership than they have already displayed for the their national team. Of course, that might not happen against a Barcelona side that were crowned champions of Europe just a few months ago.
Roma have to approach this game with caution, as they are lacking in top-level defensive talents. They need to play carefully in trying to slow down the Barcelona attack. A disciplined approach of putting men behind the ball will limit the passing space for Barcelona.
Barcelona have not yet been able to hit their attacking highs from last season, but they have done enough to win their first three league games of the season. Wins against Athletic Club and Malaga only required 1-0 victories, while Barcelona were able to win 2-1 away playing Atlético Madrid.
Manager Luis Enrique has been starting with Neymar and Luis Suárez in his attacking trident, but Leo Messi has been slowly integrated following his busy summer of international football for Argentina. This was epitomised by his appearance from the bench against Atlético to score the winning goal. Messi’s contribution in this potentially tricky away game will be critical.
Aside from Gerard Pique’s suspension, the Barcelona team from last season is largely intact. This stability is the reason why Barcelona will be in an excellent position to start the group stage with an away victory. The teams that have to be concerned are those that have had considerable player turnover.
Additionally, the simple fact that Barcelona can play with Messi, Neymar, and Suárez is more than enough for most teams to cope with. Beating Atlético has set Barcelona up nicely to bring their A game into the encounter with Roma.
Neymar is in good form and is available at 2.50 to score anytime with bet365, which is superior to the current odds for Messi and Suárez.
With attention devoted to the legendary Messi, Neymar will have more space to operate in. He will be important if Barcelona are to end up winning this matchup.
